Club Under New Management
27/06/2011 -
On 20 June Woolgoolga Rotary President David Fayle handed over to new President Norm Michener. Norm who lives at Emerald Beach with wife Helen is a retired school teacher and part-time macadamia farmer and has been active in the local Rotary Club for many years. He is looking forward to the challenge of leading the busy Club, ably assisted by an experienced Board.
Woolgoolga Rotary Club raises the bulk of its funds through the monthly auctions of used household goods held on the first Saturday of every month (except January) behind the CWA building on Beach St. It is a great recycling effort for the community and the funds raised are also recycled and used in the community to assist other organisations (such as Rural Fire Services, the SES, the scouts, Northern Beaches Care and the Northern beaches Youth Centre to name a few). The Club also delivers a range of service and assistance - everything from providing scholarships and programs for local youth to Bowelscan tests for the over 40s to help prevent loss of life from bowel cancer. The Club is also active in making a contribution whenever major disasters occur, be they floods in Queensland or earthquakes in Haiti and participates in programs to help communities less fortunate than ours with everything from literacy kits for Pacific Island kids to helping orphanages and schools in Nepal. The Club has grown recently and is always on the look out for new members who are keen to give something back to the community.
